Choosing the Right IPTV App
Your IPTV app is the interface between you and your channels. It handles everything from logging in and loading your channel list to displaying the electronic programme guide (EPG) and managing playback. The right app makes the difference between a smooth, enjoyable viewing experience and a frustrating one full of crashes, missing channels and confusing menus.
There is no single app that is best for everyone. The ideal choice depends on your device, your technical confidence, and what features matter most to you. Some apps prioritise simplicity — install, log in, watch. Others pack in advanced features like recording, multi-view, catch-up TV and deep customisation options that let you tailor every aspect of the interface.
All four apps covered on this page work with XtremeHD IPTV UK subscriptions. Whether you connect via Xtream Codes API, M3U playlist or portal URL, each app accepts the credentials you receive when you sign up. Below, we break down each option so you can pick the one that fits your needs and your device.
IPTV Smarters Pro
IPTV Smarters Pro is the most widely used IPTV app in the world, and it is easy to see why. It runs on virtually every platform: Android, iOS, Amazon Fire Stick, Windows, Mac and most smart TVs. The interface is clean, intuitive and designed so that anyone — regardless of technical ability — can set it up and start watching within minutes.
Login is straightforward. You enter your Xtream Codes API details (server URL, username and password) and the app pulls in your full channel list, VOD library and EPG data automatically. There is no need to upload M3U files or configure external EPG sources. Everything loads from the server in one step.
The built-in EPG displays programme schedules in a familiar grid layout. You can browse what is on now, check upcoming programmes and jump between channels without losing your place. Smarters Pro also supports parental controls, allowing you to lock specific channels or categories behind a PIN code — useful if children have access to the TV.
Favourites management lets you build a personalised channel list so your most-watched channels are always a single click away. The app remembers your last-watched channel and resumes where you left off when you reopen it. Playback is reliable, with support for multiple video codecs and adaptive streaming that adjusts quality based on your connection speed.
Smarters Pro is completely free to use. There are no premium tiers, no trial periods and no hidden costs. For the vast majority of IPTV users — especially those who are new to IPTV — it is the best place to start.
Best for: beginners and most users who want a reliable, no-fuss IPTV experience on any device.

TiviMate Player
TiviMate is the IPTV app that power users swear by. It is available on Android devices and Amazon Fire Stick only — there is no iOS, Windows or Mac version. What it lacks in platform support, it more than makes up for in features and polish. If you care about EPG layout, recording and interface customisation, TiviMate is in a class of its own.
The EPG in TiviMate is widely regarded as the best in any IPTV app. It displays a full, scrollable programme grid with colour-coded categories, detailed programme descriptions and the ability to set reminders for upcoming shows. Navigation is fast, even with thousands of channels loaded. You can filter by category, search by channel name and jump to specific time slots without any lag.
TiviMate Premium (roughly £4 per year) unlocks recording support, allowing you to schedule recordings of live programmes and save them to local or external storage. It also adds catch-up TV for providers that support it, multi-view mode for watching up to four channels simultaneously, and the ability to manage multiple IPTV subscriptions from different providers within a single app.
Channel grouping and custom categories give you granular control over how your channel list is organised. You can hide categories you never watch, reorder groups, and create custom favourites lists for different family members or viewing habits. The interface is highly responsive and feels native to Android TV, making remote control navigation smooth and predictable.
The free version of TiviMate is fully functional for basic viewing but limits you to one playlist and does not include recording or multi-view. Most serious users upgrade to premium within a few days of trying it — the features justify the small annual cost many times over.
Best for: users who want the most features, the best EPG and full control over their viewing experience.

VLC & Kodi
VLC Media Player and Kodi are both free, open-source media players that have been around for years. Neither was built specifically for IPTV, but both handle it well — especially on platforms where dedicated IPTV apps are limited or unavailable.
VLC is the lighter of the two. It plays virtually any media format ever created, and that includes IPTV streams via M3U playlists. To use VLC for IPTV, you open your M3U playlist URL through the network stream option. VLC loads the channel list and lets you switch between channels directly. It works on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS. The interface is minimal and functional rather than polished, but playback is rock-solid and codec support is unmatched.
VLC does not have a built-in EPG, which is its main limitation for IPTV use. You see a list of channel names but no programme information, no grid guide and no catch-up support. For users who just want to tune in and watch without needing schedule data, this is not an issue. For those who rely on an EPG, VLC falls short.
Kodi takes a different approach. It is a full media centre application with a plugin architecture that extends its capabilities far beyond basic playback. For IPTV, you install the PVR IPTV Simple Client add-on, point it at your M3U playlist and EPG XML source, and Kodi transforms into a fully featured IPTV player complete with programme guide, channel logos, favourites and recording support.
Setting up Kodi for IPTV takes more steps than Smarters Pro or TiviMate. You need to enable the PVR add-on, configure the playlist URL, set the EPG source and adjust a handful of settings. It is not difficult, but it is not a one-click process either. The reward is a highly customisable setup that runs on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS, Raspberry Pi and more. Kodi skins let you completely change the look of the interface, and additional add-ons can add features like automatic channel logos, recording schedules and library management.
Best for: tech-savvy users, PC and Mac viewers, and anyone who wants a free, open-source solution with maximum flexibility.

XtremeHD Player
XtremeHD Player is our own app, built from the ground up specifically for XtremeHD IPTV subscribers. It is available on Android devices and Amazon Fire Stick. The entire point of XtremeHD Player is simplicity: download the app, enter your subscription credentials and start watching. There is no configuration, no playlist URLs to copy, no EPG sources to set up manually.
Because the app is designed exclusively for our service, every aspect is pre-configured. The EPG is built in and syncs automatically with our channel list. Channel categories, logos and ordering match exactly what you see on our website. There are no compatibility issues, no mismatched channel numbers and no missing programme data. It simply works out of the box.
The interface is stripped down to the essentials. You get a channel list, an EPG, a favourites section and a VOD library. There are no settings pages full of options you will never touch. Navigation is designed for remote controls, so scrolling through channels and switching between live TV and on-demand content is fast and intuitive on a Fire Stick or Android TV box.
Playback is optimised for our streams. The app uses the same adaptive bitrate settings and buffer configurations that we recommend for our service, so you get the smoothest possible experience without needing to adjust any technical settings. If your internet connection dips, the player adjusts quality automatically rather than stopping to buffer.
XtremeHD Player is completely free for all active subscribers. It does not support other IPTV providers — it is locked to XtremeHD IPTV UK — but if you are already subscribed to our service, it is the fastest and easiest way to start watching.
Best for: XtremeHD IPTV subscribers who want the simplest, most hassle-free setup possible.
